Big Jim Western action figures were produced by Mattel with two labels : in Germany, France, Belgium and Netherlands this line took the name of Karl May, in reference to the German writer Karl Friedrich May. In Big Jim line, the characters names were inspired by American West legend. In Karl May line, the characters names were extracted from Karl May stories.
Western series gave the only female character of Big Jim line. All figures of this series had karate chop action. Many Western outfits and accessories were released, similar in the two lines.
In 1978 Mattel launched two new series derived from TV series "How the West was won" and "Grizzly Adams". Available toys had a face resembling that of the actor, except for Lone Wolf who was the double of Geronimo/Winnetou. Each figure had karate chop action and Big Jim body.
